Our Origin Story
Addressing A Growing Need
In the last decade, there has been no greater challenge for higher education than student mental health. Campuses have seen counseling demand increase at a rate five times that of enrollment and suicide remains the second-leading cause of death on college campuses. To effectively address these daunting mental health challenges, YOU at College was developed through a unique public-private partnership between Grit Digital Health and Colorado State University. This partnership pioneered a thorough human-centered design process, inclusive of students and campus administrators in higher education, leading to the creation of the YOU platform to provide personalized and comprehensive upstream care to every student from enrollment to graduation.
Our History of Social Impact
The YOU at College team has a deep history of driving behavior change, tracing our roots back to a nearly decade-long collaboration with our friends at Cactus – an impact-minded agency – to create a suicide prevention and mental health awareness campaign for men: Man Therapy. With our track record of developing campaigns and tools to deliver impact at scale, our work has grown to include well-being solutions for veterans, emergency responders, mental health centers, and more. Our success in these focal areas, in combination with our intensive human-centered design, has enabled our team to develop a comprehensive suite of solutions to help students, faculty, and staff take charge of their health and well-being.
Evolving to Support the Continuum
From the outset, our vision was to provide students with a comprehensive way to navigate life and campus, no matter where they were at in their college journey. Through innovative partnerships with like-minded organizations such as JED Campus and Hopelab, as well as mission-driven institutions, like CU Anschutz Medical Campus and the University of Colorado Denver, our work has evolved to address all areas of the campus care continuum. With a fully developed, comprehensive suite of solutions, YOU at College now provides upstream support for all students, faculty and staff, as well as tools to promote social connection, and access to 24/7 crisis triage for every campus.
