Space for Reflection
The Nod app experience provides short exercises that help students process their social experiences, reduce self-criticism, and build resilience so they can keep progressing toward their social goals in school.
How Nod Works
In tandem with ideas and reflections, Nod provides real student perspectives on social connection that help break the myth of magical friendship, reinforcing the message that building connections takes time, effort, and patience.

Evidence-Based Skill-Building Tools
Nod is a research-backed tool, rooted in science, that is proven to develop the necessary skills to buffer students against loneliness and depression.
Turnkey Promotional Strategies
The Nod partnership equips campus administrators with all of the engaging promotional collateral and marketing strategies to drive student adoption.
Co-Designed with Students
Our co-design philosophy gave students the power to define how loneliness impacts them, ensuring our team developed an effective solution to address their needs.
“We are really proud to have undertaken the Nod RCT and found that it’s hard to keep a good thing a secret, so we had to roll it out to the rest of campus.”
“Nod allows me to think of ways to interact with people that I probably wouldn’t have thought of on my own. It opens more opportunities for me.”
“It’s nice that the app has actual goals for you to do. I try to set social goals for myself, but this app makes me more accountable and really encourages me to be creative in social interaction. It’s actually really fun!”
“I like how I get new advice and ideas about socializing with others. It gives me confidence to get out of my comfort zone.”
“I think it is beneficial to have the app as a freshman because you can use it to change how you approach situations and it helps to give you a new perspective.”
“The app is great and has also been helpful in learning how to relieve stress, as well as a good encouragement tool to go out and make new friends.”
“It is very calming and it gives great advice. It encourages you to step outside of your comfort zone.”
Delivering Positive Outcomes
A 2019 randomized controlled trial at the University of Oregon, published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, found that Nod is indeed effective in buffering students against loneliness and depression with positive secondary outcomes of improved sleep quality, social connections, and intent to persist in school.
