Concern has been growing about the need for increased mental health resources for college students and people of all ages across the state and nation in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week, Gov. Tony Evers declared 2023 “the year of mental health” in his State of the State address.

“We know that mental health needs continue to rise for our students and timely access to quality services is vital. Our Counseling Center consistently serves a higher percentage of students in comparison to both state and national averages,” said Leah Folks, interim director of UWO’s Counseling Center.

“Students are more likely to connect with the support they need when there are more accessible options available, especially without cost. Mantra Health will fit well with student schedules that require evening or weekend appointments.”

The new and enhanced services at UWO are part of a $5 million UW System initiative supported by American Rescue Plan Act funds. The services are intended to fill gaps and complement counseling, psychiatric and self-help resources already available on campus.

UWO students can connect with the services directly through the YOU at UWO website or via help from a UWO counselor who can answer questions or schedule support.
